Target Heart Rate Range

How to calculate your Target Heart Rate Range (THRR)

Karvonen Method

1.  Subtract resting HR (heart rate) from maximal HR to obtain HR reserve (HRR)
2.  Take 60-80% of the HRR.
3.  Add each HRR value to resting HR to obtain THR range.

Maximal HR is obtained by 220 - the age of the client.

Example:
A 28 year old client with a resting HR of 70:
220-28=192
192-70 = 122
60% X 122 = 73.2
80% X 122 = 97.6
73.2 + 70 = 143.2
97.6 + 70 = 167.6
THR:  167.6 - 143.2
